The Bass Rock is an island which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in its own right, due to its gannet colony. Trips to the Bass Rock are available from Scottish Seabird Centre in North Berwick

You can take a boat ride out to the rock from the Seabird centre. Also you can visit the other islands; Fidra and Craigleith.

If you fancy a day away from the city, take a train to North Berwick and enjoy this quaint small town. It's got great cafes and shops and a fantastic seafood stall at the harbour. You can take a boat trip out round the Bass Rock and see the worlds largest gannet colony.

The Bass Rock has been described by Sir David Attenborough as 'one of the 12 wildlife wonders of the world' and Chris Packham has described 'this gannet-capped island' as the most exciting birding spectacle in the UK. North of the Bass is rated as the third best cliff dive in Britain. Closer to shore green, brown and red seaweeds and oarweed, festoon the rocks, jostling with mussels whelks, limpets and winkles for space. You leave by boat from North Berwick - can be reached by train, bus or car. Great trip out for the day. Do check for sailing times and most likely .... book.
