If you enjoy history, this home tour is worthwhile. All of the furnishing are original and the tours guides are great. The tours can be self-guided, so you can spend as little or as much time as you'd like.

Galena's gift to President Grant. Not only is it a beautiful home but it is a gorgeous walk and a great place to take photographs.

This Italianate-style brick house, with original furnishings, looks very much as it did in 1865 when a group of townspeople presented it as a gift to Ulysses S. Grant on his victorious return from the Civil War. The Museum features over 6,000 square feet of exhibit space on lead mining in the northwest region, the driftless area, Grant’s leather store, the Port of Galena: 1858. On August 18, 1865, Galena celebrated the return of its Civil War hero General Ulysses S. Grant. Galena citizens presented the General with a handsome furnished house on Bouthillier Street.

The home was designed by William Dennison and constructed in 1859 - 1860.
