Step back in time and imagine the area full of noise, smoke and industry. Now it is a tranquil space with the relics of Cornwall's mining past haunting the landscape.
At the heart of The Mining World Heritage Site is The Great Flat Lode. Explore the evocative post industrial mining landscape and visit the medieval castle on top of Carn Brea where you can book a table for a candle lit Lebanese style dinner .
To get onto the Great Flat Lode walk along Loscombe Lane. Turn left out of Lanyon until you come to the entrance of an old tin mine, South Wheal Frances, part of the Basset mines. It's really interesting to look at the preserved ruins. You can combine walking with history and imagine what life must have been like for the miners.
