The Wahine disaster occurred on 10 April 1968. The Wahine Memorial Park marks an area near where the survivors reached the shore at Seatoun, has a memorial plaque, ship's anchor & chain and replicas.
Site of the Wahine tragedy (boat sinking) of 1968 in which 51 people lost their lives. Peaceful spot to sit and watch the ocean while contemplating the world.
A memorial park in honour of the passengers and crew aboard the Wahine an interisland ferry that capsized after striking Barretts reef just off Breaker Bay on 10 April 1968.
