Le château de Montpoupon se situe en Indre-et-Loire, à l'est de Tours, à 10 km au sud de Montrichard et à quelques km du château de Chenonceau sur la route de Loches, dans une vallée, au cœur d'une forêt. Il dépend de la commune de Céré-la-Ronde. Il fait l’objet d’un classement au titre des monuments historiques depuis janvier 1966.
