About 8 miles round trip to one of the most stunning glacial lakes in Colorado. Very different than the hike to Chasm Lake or Twin Sisters because you don’t spend much time above tree line, but once you arrive, you’ll be greeted with incredible views of a bunch of 1,000-foot granite spires towering above you. The trail is relatively flat for the distance, and only steeper in a few sections, so while it can be a long day out for those who aren’t yet acclimated, it’s fairly easy. Doable in the winter with snowshoes, best with backcountry skis, and perfect from mid-May to mid-October.

Sky Pond via Glacier Gorge is a longer more challenging hike at 8.5mi. Traction is necessary to enjoy any hike in RMNP before the snow really starts to melt in June. These trails are all very popular and parking can be a challenge. You may have to park at the visitor center in Estes and Shuttle in.

Trail Difficulty Rating: 12.60 (Strenuous). Roundtrip length: 9 Miles. This is my most favorite hike in RMNP. Sky Pond offers hikers amazing alpine scenery. You'll see two waterfalls and two other stunning lakes along the way. The hike alongside Timberline Falls to reach the basin might be challenging for those with a fear of heights.
