The Western Heights are one of the most impressive and vast fortifications in Britain. It’s a fascinating place to walk around and explore with incredible views across Dover and out to sea. The Western Heights Preservation Society run free tours inside the Drop Redoubt fort on the third Sunday of April, June, July and August. Great half day out. The Western Heights are a must for history buffs. Set overlooking the straights of Dover and the town. It's not open to the public every day. The grounds are open during daylight hours and the preservation society run open days and events. A must to do with the Grand Shaft.
