One of the lesser known palaces of Sintra, this hidden gem is just a short drive away. The grounds are fantastic, and there is a large area of forest surrounding the palace with innumerable trails.
Its history dates back to 1093 when a chapel dedicated to Virgin Mary was built here, but the current palace was finalised around 1863 as summer residence of the Cook family, english merchants based in Lisbon, and its neo-gothic and islamic architecture fulfils even today the "dream of 1001 nights". The park has many great spots to explore with kids.
