Cost effective public transportation with a view! If you'd prefer to see the harbor and spend $2-3/person, this is the way to go! There are small shops and restaurants, and a waterfront trail to explore in Dartmouth.

The Halifax to Alderney Ferry is not only a great way to visit Downtown Dartmouth on foot but also a great sightseeing and photo opportunity!! Our Ferry is the oldest saltwater ferry service in North America, and the second oldest in the world!! The Halifax Ferry Terminal is located Downtown right on the boardwalk, so easy to access during a day of exploring! At only $2.75 per way per person, it is a great way to get on the water and take in the sights of the city! The upper deck of the ferry is open air - which is always fun, no matter what time of year!

From the Dartmouth side you can jump on the ferry and take a 15 minute ferry across to downtown Halifax

It is $2.50 to cross the Harbour - make sure you take the Alderney Ferry for downtown Dartmouth and ask for a transfer. If you don’t stay for too long, say long enough for a croissant at TIBS, you should be able to get back for free. This is a great way to see the view of the Halifax Water Front.
