Gorgeous white and sometimes red-streaked sand, magnificent rock outcrops; $10 to park there now.

If you're on the North coast when you're on the Hwy., turn on Sycamore and drive for about 10 minutes. When you walk towards the ocean you will see the most majestic sights ever...a huge self/standing rock with a blowhole in the middle and water crashing through it. The water is really rough so only the most experienced swimmers should venture into the water. It's a wonderful experience to kick back and take it all in.

This is a must! Not more than up to a 40 minute drive up the coast line. If you have never seen the purple sand of Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur you are missing out. The moment your feet hit the sand your breath is taken away! Go the distance and take a walk until you come to a grove of trees and hike up to the top of the hill to experience one of the most magnificent views you will ever see. This will change your life, I promise.

Pfeiffer Beach in the Big Sur area is definitely off the beaten path, but well worth the drive. Just south of Big Sur Station on Highway 1 is unsigned.
