You do need a car to access this interactive eco tourism experience. 20 minutes up the road to Mossman from PD you'll find self guided walks, indigenous art, a cafe, freshwater (crocodile free) swimming and if you're lucky and wear bright coloured swimwear a Ulysses butterfly might land on you!

Mossman Gorge is one of the hidden gems of Cairns and Tropical Far North Queensland, Australia - a breathtakingly beautiful crystal-clear river in the southern Daintree rainforest marked by huge granite boulders and lined by lush tropical rainforest. As part of the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, Mossman Gorge is home to the oldest continually surviving rainforest anywhere on earth – largely unchanged for more than 135 million years. Mossman Gorge is known by locals as one of the best freshwater swimming locations in the region, with crystal-clear water surrounded by the oldest rainforest on earth, with nice shady areas to relax or have a picnic. Whether you just want to cool-off in a stunning natural setting, see the lush tropical rainforest or experience the special cultural history of local Aboriginal people, Mossman Gorge is a must-do tour for any visitor to Tropical Far North Queensland. Visitors to Mossman Gorge are we;lcome to explore the area without going on a guided rainforest tour however we strongly recommend you pay for the shuttle service from the Mossman Gorge centre into the heart of Mossman Gorge, as the road is dangerous to walk. Additionally you will be supporting the local Aboriginal people who run the centre and are invaluable in helping to conserve this extremely important natural wilderness. This special area has been a place of significant cultural importance to the Kuku Yalanji people for thousands of years, who now invite others to come and experience the wonder of the gorge. For visitors to Australia, Mossman Gorge presents a unique opportunity to feel both the strong spiritual connection of the area and the wonder of a rainforest that has thrived for millions of years.

Scenery is beautiful, water is a bit chilly for my liking. But the kids enjoy swimming here.

A wonderful cultural experience - a must do is the guided Ngadiku Dreamtime walk conducted by the very knowledgeable local Indigenous people. Ngadiku means stories and legends from a long time ago in local Kuku Yalanji language. There are also four self guided walks ranging from 270m in length to 2.4km (return). The only way into the park is via the shuttle bus that runs from the Cultural Centre and drives you to the heart of the gorge. The shuttle departs every 15 minutes, between 8.00am and 6pm seven days a week. Last bus out of the park is 5:30pm.
