You may walk to Karaköy from Galata Tower through a historical buildings. Eat a baklava in Güllüoğlu or Kebap near restaurants. Than get in to world's second oldest subway in Karaköy to Tünel. Than walk towards to İstiklal Street (or get in to historical tram) than walk towards to Taksim square.

It is not possible to define Taksim as a district. It is more correct to see it as a square and a collection of buildings surrounding it.
