Cheap Italian eats in a very large restaurant in The Lanes, a great standby for a quick, filling and inexpensive lunch or dinner.

For homely, reasonably priced restaurant with a good family atmosphere, try looking at Donatellos which is one of the longest standing family restaurants in Brighton. They specialise in Italian but do absolutely anything very inexpensively.
