“The Lorraine Motel was the site of Martin Luther King Junior’s assassination, and though some might have had it demolished or allowed its tainted history to dictate its future, the city of Memphis has turned the motel into an incredible homage to the civil rights movement that King labored so diligently to progress. The National Civil Rights Museum underwent a 27.5 million dollar renovation in 2012 and in order to properly exhibit the entire history of civil rights, the museum encompasses not just the Lorraine Motel, but several surrounding buildings as well.”

“I can't make a list and not include Beale. The history is incredible. Now it's mostly neon and bars. Lots of bars, restaurants, and live music that they think tourists would like. I go maybe once or twice a year. You can have an open container on the street and I think they serve til 5 or 6 AM. It's fun to walk with a drink in your hand. LOTS of great souvenir shops.”

Zoo
“The Memphis zoo is one of the largest indoor animal facilities in America as well as the oldest as it was opened in the year 1906. The zoo is home to 3,500 animals belonging to 500 different species and the area is divided into various zones such as the teton trek that is home to grizzly bears, timber wolves and river otters. The Northwest Passage houses the ultimate crowd pleasers- polar bears and sea lions that even perform at an amphitheatre. The African Veldt contains white Rhinos, giraffes, zebras and elephants. The cat country includes leopards, lions, cheetahs, Bengal Tigers, Jaguars and snow Leopards, among many others.”

Museum
“Elvis Presley got his start in this small studio just east of downtown Memphis. Today, you can tour Sun Studios, learn all about Memphis’ musical lore from local artists who serve as tour guides, and even stand at the microphone where the King of Rock & Roll himself made history while crooning, “That’s All Right.””

“Within walking distance (15 minutes) or a quick Uber/Lyft ride (5 minutes) from the Magnolia House has a great dinner/music scene and enjoyed by all. Make this a stop while in Memphis. ”
