In some cases, you may opt to pay for a reservation with someone else’s payment method, or provide the information on behalf of someone else, such as a property owner, so that they can receive payouts. In such cases, we may need to collect additional information about such persons to facilitate the payment transaction and meet our legal and compliance obligations.
In all cases where you may provide someone else’s information, you must ask their permission before you provide their information to us.
Paying with someone else’s payment method
If you pay with someone else’s payment method, such as a credit card or PayPal, we will ask for that person’s information to complete the payment as described in our Payments Terms of Service. For example, when you pay with another person’s credit card, we may ask for information such as the name on the card, the card number, expiration date and security code, and the address associated with the card. When you pay via someone else’s Paypal account, we will ask for the person’s name and email address, and you will be redirected to Paypal where they can log into their account and confirm the payment.
Setting up payouts for someone else
If you would like to set up a payout to a recipient who is not an Airbnb user, such as a property owner or a business, you may need to provide information about the recipient to enable us to carry out the payment and fulfill our legal obligations, such as tax reporting and Know Your Customer. We may ask for information such as the recipients’ name, bank account number, email address and physical address, country and date of birth, and citizenship. In the United States, we may require the person’s tax identification number. In some cases, we may also need to obtain a copy of the person’s government ID, in which case we will ask you for their contact information and reach out to them.
Learn more about how we will use the information collected and your rights in our Privacy Policy.
