This is the museum of one of our greatest writers, Ion Luca Caragiale. It's worth visiting not only for the books and the comprehensive collection of items that belonged to him, but also for the nice and professional staff who will answer all your questions. A very small museum that worth to be visited with family and especially with children which can get some cultural information.

Religious Sites

The great and impressive Synagogue Beth Israel is situated in the center of Ploiesti. The Synagogue was built in 1911-1912, when the Jewish population from Ploiesti counted about 2500 persons. Of the six synagogues in the area, the one in Ploiesti resisted the anti-Semitic persecutions and the Holocaust. But, almost all members of the Jewish community have emigrated, and now - only 28 persons were officially reviewed in 2011.

Representative for the city Ploiesti and local religion culture. This cathedral dedicated to St. John the Baptist it is a symbol of the Ploieşti City and you'll be impressed by the architecture. Built in early XIXth century, it was reconstructed in 1840-1841, using the money of the local community (the multicultural Orthodox neighborhood included romanian ethnics, along with Bulgarians, Greeks and Serbians - alll contributed to the rebuilding the church). The future Cathedral received a new 55m tower bell in the first part of XXth century (they finished building it in 1939), as a memorial for 1st WW soldiers. The new building used to be one of the main landmarks of the prosperous Ploiești, former capital of European (and worldwide) oil industry. It survived almost untouched to the 2nd World War, while Ploiești was heavy bombed (by Russians, Americans, and later by Germans). Remember that here took place the well-known Tidal-Wave, the most important air battle of the American air-force in Europe. Despite being quite high, nowadays the Cathedral is not so visible as it used to be in the mid-XXth century, since in early 1960s the communist regime choose to partly obturate its view with a 8 flats (ground floor + 7 more) building. Therefore, seen from South, one can see only the peak of the bell-fry. This spectacular cathedral has become, over its decades of existence, more than just a building and a place of worship , not only a true tourist attraction. If you have no idee how an Orthodox church looks like, it might be a very good idea to visit it if you are in the city.

My favourite place in town! It is the place in town that has won hearts of everyone! Our favorite place for coffee, ice-cream and spending peaceful moments. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the food is done with passion. You have to taste everything because all is made in a way that makes you come back, I think the secret ingredient is "passion for cooking". The ice-creams are the best in Ploiesti, natural, based on Italian recepies. As well as the deserts, which are delicious. Every month they come up with new ideas in terms of food and beverages. I really love this place and I recommend it to anyone!

Maybe the best restaurant in terms of food in Ploiesti. Nice building and atmosphere. The restaurant is located in the city center close to the south station railway. The staff is competent and speaks a rather good english. The restaurant proposes an outside court or an inside large salon. The menu is large and proposes everything a western european could enjoy (salads for the ladies and meat and meat for the boys). The prices are in the local average, cheap. Very good “ciorba de fasole in paine” and “papanasi”. Nice and helpful staff. Location relaxing and beautiful. A good place to eat.

Nice place, good music and tasty and variate food. Prices are very good for the quantity and quality they offer. In Ploiesti are two locations, one of that central and the second one at the begining of Independence bulevard. Good papanasi with blueberry, so far favourite in town for everyone. Good for an informal dinner and also offers light dishes like salads or chicken.

Peleș Castle - Former home of the Royal Family This magnificent Neo-Renaissance castle is located in the town of Sinaia, some 60 km from Ploiesti and 45 km from the city of Brasov. Peles Palace is the most representative building in the period of the royalist Romania. It was built between 1873 and 1914 for the king Carol I on the medieval road that links historical regions of Transylvania and Wallachia. It is surrounded by beautiful scenery of foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. It was private property of the Romanian Royal Family until 1947, when the King Michael I of Romania abdicated. After fall of the Communist regime in Romania and death of Nicolae Ceausescu, the whole property that includes neigbouring Pelisor Castle and Foisor Hunting Lodge was returned to the family in 1997. It's worth a visit, don't miss! one of the most beautiful castles in Europe!

Located about 120 km from Ploiesti, Bran Castle - commonly known as Dracula's Castle, Bran Castle is probably the most famous medieval castle in Romania. Perched atop a steep cliff, the castle guards an important tourist route that connects the historic regions of Wallachia and Transylvania. A must!
