Food Scene
Excellent restaurant: pasta, pizza, steak (the best steaks anywhere!!). Lovely casual restaurant, not expensive and great service. You can bring your own bottle of wine and they only charge a small corkage fee. Make sure you book for weekends because it is very busy Fri / Sat / Sun. Only a 6 minute walk from the apartment. We love it!

Really lovely restaurant, for those who 'know' their food. This is an award winning, very highly rated restaurant. Great for lunch and dinner alike. Very professional restaurant, and excellent foot. Church StreetReally lovely restaurant, for those who 'know' their food. This is an award winning, very highly rated restaurant. Great for lunch and dinner alike. An absolute MUST VISIT when you come to Athlone. When you get there make sure you ask for Timmy and tell him Lisa and Aengus suggested that you look for him. Ask him to tell you a bit about the history of Sean's Bar.. its fascinating! Oh ye don't forget to order a Guinness - Sean's serve the best !! A tip, if you go at night time its busy and Timmy may be very busy. So, if you visit Sean's in the afternoon Timmy should be available to chat to you. Sláinte (cheers in Gailge)

Our castle is over 800 years old, in the last 5 years we spent €4 million refurbishing the visitor center inside the castle telling the story of Athlone and the castle. All languages are catered for with a state of the art translation headset for everyone.

An intimate, state of the art, new Art Gallery - just completed within the last 5 years. It's location right on the edge of the River Shannon make the Luan Gallery a very special place to visit. This is a must see Gallery and the good news is IT's FREE!

Parks & Nature
A really special park built and maintained by the community and it is maintained to perfection. A 15 minute drive from Athlone, this is well worth a visit especially if you are travelling with children, there are loads of interesting things for children to do at this park, and there is a coffee shop on site.

Dún Na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park
Lake RoadA really special park built and maintained by the community and it is maintained to perfection. A 15 minute drive from Athlone, this is well worth a visit especially if you are travelling with children, there are loads of interesting things for children to do at this park, and there is a coffee shop on site.
Located on the banks of the River Shannon a stones throw from the centre of town.. you can't miss it !! A lovely, peaceful river side walk a 10 minute walk from the apartment.

This is a segragated cycle / walk way, away from the main road, only walkers and cyclists allowed. There is a brilliant bicycle rental shop 'DB Cycles' down the road from the apartment, only 2 minute walk. Just past the Centra Shop, outside the apartment block and turn right. Ask for Dermot Brennan (that's where the DB comes from !!) and tell him Aengus and Lisa sent you... he might give you a little discount.

There is a querky gift shop on this street, off the beaten track and it is a joy to visit. 'Bastion Gallery' it is called. Great place to browse.. then when you are done browsing, there is a lovely coffee shop across the road 'Bastion Kitchen'.
