Food Scene

Great food. Good energy. Cool decor. Easy parking on the corner of Main and Middlefield. It's good for a snack, drinks, game days, and full dinner.

This is on the pedestrian's walk, between Box (parking under their building) and the Broadway Plaza. Best price for fresh food. It's simple, with good food - and near many other restaurants, dessert places, juice places, the movies, and wine bars.

Great Mexican food for the best prices and fast too. Best deal is the Super Taco for $3.99 plus a helping of free chips and radishes. The serve until midnight and they are walking distance from our house. They are in the Target parking lot.

Angelia's has a great restaurant, a Sunday Brunch, often with a jazz trio, and live music. It is a very large space, with many rooms, so you are not sitting in a giant hall. There is a bar, an alley way decorated with cool cement sculptures, an outdoor deck, a balcony, and a main dining room with a large stage for music Nights.

Arts & Culture

A-and B-level entertainers are booked right in downtown Redwood City. It's always a good bet if you are up for live music. They also have a bar inside and allow drinks at your seat.

I love this museum on the Stanford campus. Not only is it FREE, they have a fabulous private collection plus regular special installations, so every time is different. Definitely worth the trip to Stanford, even if you have no other business there. They have a wonderful cafe' on site, owned by Jesse Cool, who also owns Flea Street Cafe' on Alameda de Las Pulgas, in Menlo Park.

Getting Around

* South-bound Bus stop goes to Cal Tran Train station at Stanford University & Palo Alto d/t. The train takes you further south to Mountain View Castro Street, and all the way down to San Jose. * North-bound bus also goes to another Cal Tran Train station at Safeway across from Whole Foods. Catch a train at that station to go up to San Francisco. They stop running south at midnight. If you get stuck, use an Uber to get back home. *PAYMENTS* - Bus: have Change and Singles. The tokens are confusing, as the buses report to different counters - and t's very confusing. - Train: buy a ticket (and car parking spot) on the train tracks waiting platform. Takes credit cards.

2-blocks west from our house. Rent a car for the day of a few days. Call 650/361/0151 and make a reservation ahead of time for good rates. Walking in off the street to get a rental is very pricey.

Shopping

I buy a lot of art supplies and take/give art classes at University Art. They are 2 blocks west from our house, near the bus stop and car rental place.

Great bookstore - they are an institution, in a great plaza, at the Menlo Park train station. From there, you can visit Cafe Barone's, another institution for coffee, wine, and cafe' food. Always a long line and always great art hanging on their walls.

Stanford Mall is quiet spectacular, if you like the mall scene. There are loads of small shops, cafes, restaurants, markets, and the Big Anchor stores. I can't say which one anchors it, as there is so many famous stores in this mall. It will not disappoint.

Essentials

Target is one block away. Two, if you count the walk across the parking lot, past Marshall's. They have groceries, a CVS, clothing, and electronics there. Plus a Starbucks and Pizza Hut inside. It's just the best :-)

Drinks & Nightlife

Seems busy. We don't go there, but it's in the middle of many restaurants that we do go to. Check it out if you like tequila.

Its a bar and a restaurant, with rustic, artsy decor. I love this place, but it does tend to get a bit noisy. Not cheap, but not outrageous. Scottish based food, with a flair. Lot of scotch and dark beer choices too.
