At Saturdays the market is at its biggest. It offers various artisan products, the representative artisan products are textiles of Otavalo, artisan production in clay, paint, wood, jewelry, metalwork, leathergoods, marzipan, ceramic, etc.

The Plaza de los Ponchos is the commercial scene of the major artisan market in northern Ecuador that is held every day from 7 in the morning until 6 in the evening. At Saturdays the market is at its biggest. It offers various artisan products, the representative artisan products are textiles of Otavalo, artisan production in clay, paint, wood, jewelry, metalwork, leathergoods, marzipan, ceramic, etc.

Steam train from Otavalo to Ibarra. The electric-diesel Liberty Train will take you on a trip through through 57 kms. of landscapes, culture and history of the Imbabura province. This 85 year old route has been restored to its original state. The 8 hour trip includes bilingual guides, visit of the Imbabura Factory Museum and the Sal Museum or Ethnography Hall, snack, lunch; shopping possibilities and an afro-ecuadorian dance presentation. Tickets at train station close to Mercado Copacabana.
