Food Scene

One of the neighborhood establishments. Their focus is pacific northwest fair with an emphasis on local seafood and vegetables. Try to find some time for the Oyster happy hour from 5 - 7 pm. A must try and one where you can't go wrong.

I mean, you gotta get Salt & Straw if you're coming to Portland. Right on Division. A 5 minute drive or a 10 minute walk...you might need the walk.

Have you heard about this place? You've heard about this place right, like in some magazine or on a food show? Well it's legit. The hand pulled noodles are just killer and the chinese crepes will make you eat past being full. If you go to any food cart go to this one. Just be aware that the owner prepares each dish made to order so if there's a line you'll have to wait a bit. But wait in line...it's worth it.

Yes, there are a lot of coffee places to go to in Portland. But for some reason we keep going back to this neighborhood joint. It's hard to put a finger on it. Maybe its the convenient stroll. Maybe its the familiar staff. I'm not quite sure but maybe when you take a walk down 20th (about 5 minutes) to go to our favorite neighborhood coffee shop, you'll find yourself going back here too.

Modern Filipino Cuisine right in the neighborhood. Chef Carlo Lamagna has been earned accolades to include Portland Monthly's Best Restaurants 2020, and Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs list in 2021.

Not in the neighborhood but one that is worth mentioning. Probably my favorite pasta place in the world right now. Pasta is not in my diet but I will cheat to eat at this establishment. Outdoor dining allows for BYOB. The tagliatelle is something I just can't get over. Convenient for take-out as well.

Great coffee shop in the Alberta Arts district. They definitely do take away coffees (including roasting their own) but this location is situated for seated dine-in breakfast. The food is quite good. Worth the drive across town.

Just a couple blocks away. Very cool ambiance. Cocktail centric. The menu is also very good. We're very lucky to have a bar of that caliber so close to house.

Coava is really one of the most consistent flavor profiles in coffee you will find anywhere. A really great roaster and arguably one of the best in the city.

Essentials

The neighborhood organic grocer. A proud staple of the community. Local, friendly, competitive pricing. The smoothy stand outside is great. They also host yoga classes. There is a farmer's market every Wednesday (even in winter). Nice produce. Good cheeses. Some good food too. Check it out.

A little farther (a 6 minute drive) than the other neighborhood grocery stores to which you can walk but for tasty budget-minded shopping let's face it, Trader's Joe's can't be beat. I've mapped the closest one for your convenience.

The Clinton Modern doesn't have a gym. The Clinton Modern doesn't need a gym. Duniway track is mere 6 minute drive away and is open to the public. It's well maintained and in great natural setting. If you need to get your exercise on during your vacation take a few laps here. Getting across the Ross Island Bridge during peak traffic hours can be challenging though so keep that in mind.

Really one of the great Farmer's Market of the city. Held on the beautiful urban campus of PSU. Every Saturday year round but this Farmer's Market really shines in the Spring and Summer. If you're planning to eat in and cook it's worth while trying to plan this into your shopping list.

One of the famed neighborhoods of PDX for it's eccentric style, varied boutiques and great restaurants. The "Last Thursday" street fair (held on the last Thursday of every month) attracts independent artists, performers, local bands, troupes of acrobats, buskers, makers and more to celebrate their art on Northeast Alberta Street. The event can become rather rowdy toward the later part of the evening and may not be best for children/families at that time.
