Sightseeing

The hike to Corona Arch is 3 miles round trip over slickrock to both Bow Tie Arch and Corona Arch. Climbing a short ladder is involved! There is no shade so bring water, hats, sunscreen and good shoes. Great scenery & views down toward the Colorado River. The trailhead is located on Potash Road (Hwy 279) Along Potash Road, also stop to see: “Wall Street” a climbing area right next to the road and petroglyphs. Dinosaur footprint and petroglyphs at the Poison Spider parking area. Jeep Arch trailhead just past Corona Arch trailhead. Jeep Arch is a longer trail and climbs up to the dramatic Jeep Arch And Jug Handle Arch and petroglyphs. Pavement ends near the Colorado River boat ramp. This road continues into Canyonlands and is a rough 4 Wheel Drive Road

Don't bust the crust - hiking, biking, 4WD

Help to keep all of our trails open. Protect the fragile, but crucial, soil by remaining on designated roads, routes and trails at all times. Biological soil crust, also known as cryptobiotic soil, is the foundation of desert plant life. This black, knobby crust is made up of many different living organisms and plays a vital role in maintaining the desert ecosystem. However, this sensitive soil is extremely fragile and can take decades to grow. Even a footstep can damage the crust for decades, having lasting impacts on the desert environment. Please stay on the trials.

Ways to Beat the Heat

La Sal Mountains The Manti-La Sal National Forest is a different ecosystem – aspen trees, conifers and mountain flowers. The exciting road offers turn-outs so you can enjoy the breathtaking scenery. From the main entrance to Rim Village, turn right on Spanish Valley Drive, head south. Spanish Valley Drive becomes the La Sal Mountain Loop in a few miles. The loop is about 25 miles and you come out in Castle Valley. Take Hwy 128, aka the Scenic Byway as it follows the Colorado River to Moab. Boat or raft the Colorado. Outfitters offer mild to wild options.

Be Prepared!

Remember to bring appropriate footwear, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, snacks, & plenty of water in your reusable water bottles. It does rain in Moab and is chilly in the spring and fall, so pack an extra layer, gloves and a rain jacket. Be prepared!
