Rhode Island's equivalent of NYC's Central Park, Roger Williams Park is the home of the Carousel Village, Roger Williams Park Zoo, Natural History Museum, Botanical Garden, Rose Garden, and much more. Did you bring your sneakers? Here's a tip from Great Runs: Roger Williams Park is a beautiful place for a run or walk. With sidewalks alongside nearly the entire run, there are only a couple of high-traffic areas (unless you count the geese). Despite these few places, this route can basically be done in the middle of the road. This 3.12 mile loop runs past the Temple to Music, and The Roger Williams Botanical Gardens. If you’re up for an extra 2 miles (approximately), you can follow Vendale Ave (which will become Natural History Ave), and run past the Natural History Museum. At the rotary, turn onto Green Memorial Blvd, past Betsy Williams College. This will loop you around, right back to the Roger Williams Park Carousel.

Neighborhoods

Providence’s historic Federal Hill neighborhood spans iconic Atwells Avenue and the surrounding streets. Largely settled by Italian-American immigrants in the early 1900s, Federal Hill effuses a sense of warmth and community that embraces visitors and locals alike. While the neighborhood has evolved, the influence of the Italian people and culture is ever-present. When shopping or dining, take the time to talk to a shop owner or interact with a food purveyor, as they will likely share a story about the history of the store or neighborhood. – From Go Providence

The busy city streets of Washington, Westminster, and Weybosset are central to downtown Providence and the hub of commercial and retail growth. Notable companies call the city home, as do many restaurants, theaters, and institutes for higher education, such as Rhode Island School of Design, Johnson & Wales University, and the University of Rhode Island campus. The bustling scene includes a mix of residential living and hotels juxtaposed to The Dunkin' Donuts Center and the Rhode Island Convention Center. Stroll the streets and enjoy a city alive with creativity. Visitors will be amazed by the art deco style and architecture of the state's tallest skyscraper, aptly nicknamed "The Superman Building," located on Westminster Street. While exploring the streets, public art is visible in many forms, from larger-than-life photos highlighting the city's diversity, to colorful sculptural art, to a mural by RI School of Design graduate and famed artist Shepard Fairey. Spend the day visiting your favorite downtown businesses like Homestyle, Craftland, Queen of Hearts, Modern Love, The Vault Collective, Civil, Symposium Books, and Eno Fine Wines & Spirits. And since all this shopping will make you hungry, grab a bite to eat. There are plenty of nearby dining options, including Kleos, The Malted Barley, Gracie's, Providence Coal Fired Pizza, Trinity Brewhouse, Oberlin, Small Point Cafe, Tori Tomo, Figidini, and Bolt. – From Go Providence

Dancing and drinks, anyone?! Providence's oldest LGBTQ+ bar and dance club offers a welcoming environment, themed nights, and dancing, dancing, dancing. The drinks are strong; the shot boys are cute; the karaoke selection is wide; the light show on the dance floor is sparkly awesome. The DJ curates music with the kind of thumping bass that will help you get in the groove.
