Tipsoo Lake is a 30-minute drive from the cabin. There are spots for picnicking and a short loop hike around the lake. It is a good starting point for the Nachez Peak hike. Tipsoo lake is very popular and can be quite crowded. Try to go during off-peak times during the week.

Pacific Crest National Scenic TrailThis is our favorite hike. It starts at Tipsoo Lake and loops around Naches Peak. There are alpine lakes, incredible wildflowers in July, huckleberries in August, and amazing views of Mount Rainier. It is best to do the loop from Tipsoo Lake in a clockwise manner around the peak.
Paradise is the location of the Visitor Center and historic Paradise Lodge. There are many hiking trails ranging from an easy paved loop to strenuous routes. Paradise is usually very busy so it is best to try to go on weekdays.

The Cowlitz River runs through the valley. There is fishing in the river, hiking along the banks, and a swimming hole at Jody's Bridge (bridge no longer there). The swimming hole is at the end of Forest Service Road 1270. The entrance is about 2 miles east of the cabin on US Highway 12. There is a wide slow flowing part of the river with a rock for jumping off, and a rope swing.
