West Bay Diner – If you want truly local food try the West Bay Diner it is on West Bay Road just this side of the four way stop. There is parking at the rear. – We found the portions quite large but very tasty!

On West Bay Rd across from the Marriot. Craft’s menu changes regularly but is always superb. Their brunch is excellent too!

Anchor & Den (Marriott) – brunch in Cayman is quite a tradition and here offers a long one on a Sunday with great food, champagne and cocktails. Well worth a treat and less expensive than the Ritz Carlton (which is also superb!)

– This was a great place to eat when we lived on the island in the 90’s and it hasn’t changed today! A fantastic place to get reasonably priced food. The spit roasted chicken is excellent, the corn bread delicious. A great option is the Feast which makes for a very affordable family meal.

Is my favorite fish restaurant in Grand Cayman! It is only a few minutes away in Morgan’s Harbour. A lovely restaurant overlooking the boat dock and the North Sound.

Just down the road you will find West Bay beach which is very close and easy to get to. It tends to not have many tourists at it so can be a good spot for a quieter beach.

As you drive towards George Town along West Bay Road you will come to the Governor’s house - it is about ½ a mile from the big public beach. There is parking to the right of the house and this part of Seven Mile Beach is less crowded than further down as there are no hotels.

If you have rented a car head out to Smith’s Barcadere (also known as Smith's Cove). This can be found along South Sound Road and is a beautiful beach surrounded by a picturesque cove. A wonderful place to spend a few hours soaking up the sun and enjoying the scenery.

A wonderful place to watch the sunrise (it is about 45 minutes from the house). Follow the coast road all the way out past Prospect and you get to Spotts Beach. (It is just next to Spotts Cemetery). This beach offers a very shallow area with lots of grass on the bottom. The area is protected by a barrier reef so is very calm and is a great place to see turtles feeding on the grass. – Well worth taking a mask and snorkel to!

Scuba Diving

half a mile down the road towards George Town you will find Divetech. They are a great dive operation with a fabulous dock and wonderful shore dive. There are lots of options form here but very soon after you drop down from the buoy you will come across the ‘Guardian of the Sea’ statue which makes for great photos. They have a mini wall and also a line leading out to the main wall. They also offer courses, guided shore dives and boat dives.

Carry along South Sound Rd from Eden Rock and you will quickly come to Sunset House. As an aside their store has some of the best camera gear and photographs thanks to Cathy Church ( a famous island underwater photographer). Sunset reef is made of fingers or coral heading out to sea. It is a lovely site and also has a statue sunk in the sand along with a world war 2 landing craft. Both are easy to find and again make great photos.

Just past George Town harbor you will see Eden Rock. This is best done on days when there are no cruise ships in town! The site is shallow but offers lots of tarpon and swim through which can be fun to explore.

Just next door is Macabuca. It is the same wall as from Coconut Bay but what I would recommend is wandering down to Sun Divers dive shop (Under Cracked Conch) and pre-booking tanks for a night dive. You can then turn up at the bar, watch the sunset, gear up and enter the water right there. The buoy is only a short swim out. The nice thing with this dive is it is hard to get lost. You can swim one way along the wall and then back. As you finish you will be able to see the bright lights from Macabuca which will guide you back to shore. Once out and packed away you can stop for a burger and a beer before walking back to Coconut Bay!
