City/town information

Its 10 miles away, the gateway to the Highlands. An historic small city with good cafes and walks along the Tay. Our favourite cafe is Cafe Tabou, good French bistro and also North Port nr the concert hall with a modern Scottish menu. There are regular Farmer's Markets on some Saturdays.

Its a stunning Georgian city with oodles of history and much to do. There are great galleries and museums as well as walks and the fabulous castle and ancient High Street. At the foot of the High Street is the Palace of Holyrood, HM Queen Elizabeth's residence in Scotland. You can visit it and also walk in the surrounding area. A fun thing to do is the Tourist bus which allows you to hop on and off and stops at all the good places to visit and gives you info along the way. there are many good restaurants of all standards. JUPITER ARTLAND This is a MUST SEE destination. Its a beautiful sculpture park set in the countryside just outside Edinburgh and only 30 mins from Glenfarg. Many works by seriously famous sculptors and also a great cafe and restaurant. Booking advised. (A new Tracy Emin exhibition and sculpture for 2022) and there's a beautiful swimming pool (must be booked). A fab day out for all ages but best on a sunny day!

Dundee is 25 minute drive and home to a new V & A Design museum which is worth a visit just to see the building designed by Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma. Its the only other V & A in the world outside London and it explores Scotland's design heritage, its past, present and future. Beside the new museum on the banks of the Tay is RRS Discovery, the ship that took Scott and Shackleton to Antartica in 1901. There are good tapas, Thai and modern Scottish restaurants and its all within easy walking distance. Parking is easy and central.

Sightseeing/Golf

Its a beautiful town with a thriving community made up of locals, students at the University of St Andrews and golfers. There are wonderful beaches and walks but the sea is freezing and wet suits recommended. St Andrews is the Home of Golf and home to 7 golf courses, the most famous being The Old Course. They are all public courses and you can pay and play as well as hire clubs but you need to book. The University is the 3rd oldest English Speaking Uni in the world and the town's medieval street layout remains unchanged.

Food scene

This pretty village has a good 9 hole golf course as well as a great PUB! Its a proper old village pub with a garden and pizza oven and really good pub grub inside. Roaring fire, cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. On a Sunday night there's live music and often gigs and special events. Really recommended, and its a lovely drive if you go right at Jacob gates and follow signs for
