City/town information

Naples is a four-season nature lover’s mecca. The dramatic hills, thick forests, trout-rich streams, and hidden waterfalls surrounding this rural community draw hikers, mountain bikers, anglers, hunters, campers, bird watchers, skiers, and snowshoers. Vibrant wineries, farm-to-table lunch and dinner spots (Root's cafe is a local favorite), breweries and art shops located in downtown. Artists have an inherent affinity for Naples’s natural beauty. Sculptors, painters, furniture makers, actors, musicians, and others find inspiration around every corner and Naples loves them right back, encouraging creativity and the artistic lifestyle. Commercial grape growing first took root in the Naples Valley more than 150 years ago. By the 1880s, Swiss immigrant John Jacob Widmer had established Widmer Wine Cellars, tying Naples’s identity indelibly with grapes. Today, Naples still embraces their grape culture with wineries, purple fire hydrants, grape pies, and the annual Naples Grape Festival in late September that celebrates everything grape.

Food/Drink Scene

Located on the water - The Rose Tavern, our modern American restaurant at The Lake House on Canandaigua, serves a seasonal rustic menu sourced from the Finger Lakes Region and was designed to have an impact not only on our guests, but more importantly, on our neighbors and suppliers. By making a conscious effort to purchase from our region, we are able to provide a unique look into the foodways and destination that is Upstate New York. What excites us here is the natural bounty of our region: the landscapes, the farms, the dairies, the vineyards, the seasonal ebb and flow, but most specifically the terroir of our home. We hope that we can share some of our collective vision, both personal and celebratory, by passing along some of the stories of our local farmers and artisans, and by doing so, return some of the value that they have given us.

My favorite distillery with amazing food! 15 minute drive located in Naples. Reservations encouraged! Hollerhorn was built on a dream, sweat equity, sheer passion and a belief that small-town life doesn’t have to feel small. Do you enjoy high-quality spirits, tasty food, live music and sharing that experience with the people you love? So do we! At Hollerhorn, our Spirit Room is more than just a tasting room, it is about creating an elevated experience. A place to live better. A place to celebrate with old friends and maybe make a few new friends. A place for a special date night or a casual weeknight hang out. A place to bring out-of-town family and friends. A destination. It is not by chance that we chose Naples, New York as the location for our Distillery and Spirit Room. It is our great fortune to live in the Finger Lakes Region, and the Naples Valley is the crowning jewel. It is a quaint historic village surrounded by breathtaking landscape, lush farmland, a thriving arts and music scene, and an incredibly supportive community. We are so proud to be a part of it! Our hope is to create the highest quality spirits that reflect the beauty and integrity of this region. Each spirit is hand-crafted and bottled with pride right here in Naples! Let’s see how big our little town can feel!

We opened Other Half FLX in 2018 as a true farmhouse brewery on 8 acres in Bloomfield, NY to explore our connection to local agriculture and wild yeast through spontaneous and mixed-fermentation brewing. Located just 30 minutes outside of Rochester and minutes from Canandaigua Lake, Other Half FLX is both a destination and a local brewery. Featuring over 20 of our craft IPAs, lagers, sours, stouts, and seltzers on draft and by the can, along with ample indoor and outdoor seating and a rotating array of local food vendors.

Activities

HIKING - The Glen is known for its waterfalls and also as the source of the oldest fossilized tree in New York State. Grimes Creek originates at Cleveland Hill, one of the highest points in the Naples region. Be prepared to get your feet wet - there are incomplete trails along the Glen floor and parts of the hike involve walking in the creek bed. Wear shoes with a good tread to handle the slippery rocks. There are a few small cascades after crossing a footbridge but the better known waterfalls are referred to as just the "first" and "second" falls. The first falls is a steep cascade pouring over layers of mossy shale. The second falls is smaller but carries more water and "roars" in comparison to the first falls. The gorge opens up at the bottom of the falls to a shallow swimming hole. There are ropes to the left of this waterfall to climb to the top, but this is only recommended for more advanced hikers. We know the beauty of Grimes Glen is hard to leave, but there is no overnight camping. Vine Street runs off Main Street in downtown Naples. Drive to the end of Vine Street to the parking area for Grimes Glen. Although Grimes Glen is open to those who want to explore, we don't recommend campers, RVs, and other large vehicles park at the trail head as you'll have trouble getting out. And that would put a damper on an otherwise outstanding adventure!

The Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail is a small but robust wine trail that starts in Victor, continues through downtown Canandaigua, and runs along the western side of Canandaigua Lake to Naples. It is a 30- mile experience of Finger Lakes wine and food tastings, and a great way to meet the people along the way who pour their heart and soul into making world-class wines and welcoming guests. The trail is one of the most diverse with stops at large and small wineries, two wine centers, and a brewery, plus a wonderful variety of shops, restaurants and breathtaking scenery along the way. While the Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail makes a great day trip, a more leisurely approach is to stay in one of the quaint inns along the way and savor each and every stop. There is plenty more to do along the trail than just wine tasting including eating grape pie, a local specialty, stopping at a craft brewery for a tour, and tasting or participating in one of the wine and grape inspired events featured throughout the year. The Canandaigua Wine Trail passport offers exclusive wine tastings and discounts, and is really the best way to travel the trail. Passports are available at all member wineries – just ask for one at your first stop.
