Lanhydrock is a beautiful National Trust property with extensive grounds to explore and enjoy for free. There are acres and acres of parkland, woodland and formal garden as well as the historic property, There is a cafe and a garden centre and an outdoor children's adventure playground. There are also some mountain biking trails that cater for various abilities; bikes can be hired from the bike centre next to the car park, or you can take your own bike and use the trails for free. The car park is a pay and display one, although if you are a National Trust Member, parking is free.

Porthpean Beach is a lovely quiet beach on the south coast, about a 20 minute drive from The Cottage. It is sheltered and has a sandy beach. It is suitable for swimming, paddle boarding and canoeing. Paddle boards and canoes can be hired from a kiosk on the beach. There is also a cafe and toilets

Lanivet is a quiet village which boasts a pub that serves good quality food, a chip shop and a convenience shop.
The rural location of the village, does mean that there are a few tractors and farm machinery using the lanes, so do bear this in mind when you are driving down the narrow lanes and do be prepared to give way.
