The Katahdin Region is also home to two major snowmobiling trails on Maine's ITS (Interconnecting Trail System), some of Maine's largest lakes, bountiful fishing and hunting, and wildlife viewing. Even right from the windows of our cabins, you can see the spectacular Northern Lights, an eagle flying overhead, or a Maine moose taking a stroll.

20 miles - Grindstone, Maine The Grindstone Falls Trail is an easy hike providing access to the river for fisherman, photographers, and anyone else exploring the Katahdin Woods & Waters Scenic Byway. The trail begins at the Grindstone Rest Area and follows the roadway for a short distance (less than 500 feet) before turning back into the woods. Depending on the water level of the river, there may be some exposed rock shelves beside the trail that provide easy river access. About 0.7 miles from the trailhead, the trail crosses ME-11 into a slightly darker and damper forest. The trail quickly returns to the highway, and ends at another small parking area about 0.9 miles from the trailhead. From Medway, follow ME-11 nine miles north to the Grindstone Falls Rest Area. From Sherman, follow ME-11 sixteen miles south to the Grindstone Falls Rest Area.

Millinocket is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 4,114 at the 2020 census. Millinocket's economy has historically been centered on forest products and recreation, but the paper company closed in 2008. This USATF certified FREE race was first held in 2015 to help Maine’s most prominent mill town, which was devastated by the closing of their major employer. Runner's World Magazine picked up the story shortly after, and as they say, the rest is history! The only requirement for runners is to generously support local businesses and contribute to the Katahdin region in some way. If you are not running or you didn’t chip in at time of registration but would love to support the race please click HERE to make a donation to help cover our race expenses. Although the race is free for participants, we do have some essential race services we need to fund. These costs include: insurance, bib numbers, race timing, bus transportation, port-a-johns, as well as a few other professional services. Anything raised above and beyond our essential race expenses will be donated to Millinocket area charitable groups or organizations.
