Small, inventive and daily changing menu combined with a fantastic beer selection. The wine & spirits list isn’t half bad either. Next to the best arthouse cinema in the Low Countries, Lumière. Also great place to chill and do some work/reading in the afternoon, inside or (weather permitting, obviously) on the large outside patio.

Soups, salads and pasta in one of great local bruine kroegen (‘brown cafés’), right next to the ‘Botanieken Hof’ (the lone small park within the old city walls). No reservations: just pop in and find a table amongst the locals. The fish soup is a true delight on a cold winter’s day!

Cocktails

Set in a gorgeous building on the corner of Vlamingstraat and Kortewinkel, a mouth-watering selection of cocktails and mocktails. Within staggering distance of the studio, which is just as well should you overindulge on the Pornstar Martini. No reservations, just walk in, find a place and enjoy.

We're here for the beer

One of the best, friendliest places in town, a short hop from the Markt. Fantastic place. There’s a courtyard, but it would be a shame not to enjoy the beautiful interior. Beer lovers, rejoice: Rose Red has a truly magnificent selection of trappist beers.

Next to lovely fish market. A rare find: an old-fashioned café close to the tourist center where you’ll be mostly among locals. Great atmosphere.

Looking for a truly original and authentic Bruges souvenir or gift? Look no further than 't Apostelientje in lovely Balstraat next to the Adornes Domain. Owner Anne Thys has been collecting vintage handmade Flemish lace for 42 years and the result is simply a delight to browse. The good news is: sometimes the vintage lace is slightly discolored or damaged, so you do not have to break the bank to bring some lace home with you.

Bezienswaardigheden

Off the beaten track in the perfect-for-strolling Sint-Anna neighborhood: a private family estate, founded by the Genoese trading family Adorno in the 15th century. The 17th (!) generation of the family watches over the preservation of this beautiful yet hidden corner of Bruges, with magnificent Jeruzalemkapel (Jerusalem Chapel) as crown jewel.
