Fishing

Seward is famous for big halibut and wild salmon, and a fishing charter is a great way to get out on the water and catch some fish to eat fresh and ship home. We think Captain Sean Carlin of Alaska Northern Outfitters is the best fisherman in Seward. He offers the highest quality halibut, salmon and rockfish charters.

Getting to Seward

Seward is a 2.5 hour drive south from Anchorage. There is always construction in one form or another along the Seward Highway so make sure to give yourself an extra half hour of wiggle room for the drive. If you don't have a rental car there are bus lines that offer transportation between Anchorage and Seward such as the Parks Connection bus line. You can also ride the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward, and even up to Denali. Check out the Coastal Classic route on the Alaska Railroad website for prices and times for traveling between Anchorage and Seward.

Seward is a town for all seasons!

Although summer is the most popular time to travel to Seward, winter tourism is on the rise both in Seward and Alaska in general. If you are travelling to Seward in the 'off-season' (any time other than summertime), we recommend contacting the Seward Chamber of Commerce to see which restaurants, coffee shops, and outdoor activity companies are open. Winter activities in Seward include boat tours, snow cat and snow machine tours, snowshoeing, skiing, drinking coffee, taking walks, and being cozy inside while the weather does its thing.
