Sightseeing

In terms of places to see, I would recommend the Old Town - Cockburn Street, Royal Mile (made up of four streets, one called High Street), Victoria Street, Grassmarket, Candlemaker Row, (at Chambers Street you can pop into the National Museum for free during the day), George the IV Bridge. When you are on royal mile don’t forget to go all the way to the castle gates for a great view of the city. Just go for a stroll to experience this multi layer city with big historical influences on the modern world.

Good view of the city from the castle. A lot of history. Book ahead. Some ppl love it some may be disappointed, as buildings do not form a ruined old castle. For a romantic ruined castle go to Craigmillar Castle

Quite far to go there by public transport. Nice if you have seen everything else and it is too hot in the city.
