Some of the best sushi in town. Go on weekdays around lunchtime for an unlimited sushi buffet at a great price. It's really really good. Great vegan options as well!

This might be a chain, but I don't care. I absolutely love this place. Their tofu dishes are to die for.

Not a very glamorous addition to this guidebook, but a very practical one nonetheless. This 24 hour supermarket is very close to the apartment, so head over there in case you need a midnight snack.

Neighborhoods

Helsinki is a relatively new city, so whenever I feel like experiencing the charm of old buildings I go to Eira for a walk. My absolute favorite street is Huvilankatu, with it's lovely, almost quirky-looking pastel facades. Make sure to walk all the way to the sea while you're there.

Sightseeing

This is essentially an untouched strip of nature in the middle of a major city, it's quite unique. The forest starts close to the center, hence it's name, and it basically never stops: you could in theory go up to the border with Norway through nothing but forest. Helsinki is very lucky to have it.

Amos Rex is for the more adventurous musem-goer. There is no permanent exhibition, the ever-changing installations are very very exciting to see. It's mostly modern, edgy, immersive installations, sometimes with an interactive twist, so far I've never been disappointed. And the interior of this building is really something special.

This gem is my personal favorite museum in the entire city, by far. Smaller and more intimate, it hosts the private collection of the Sinebrychoffs that has been donated to the Finnish government in the biggest donation ever to have happened in Finalnd. Everything about this place is absolutely exquisite. The collection, the house, the surroundings. Visit. This. Place.

An absolutely lovely island not far from the city center, with an Open Air museum of old rural Finnish life. You can take bus number 24 there all the way to the last stop, and it's connected with a bridge to the mainland, so no ferry needed!

It wouldn't be Finland without a sauna. This is one of the more popular ones, located right on the sea, so make sure to take a dip to cool off after the sauna - even in winter!

The pinnacle of modern Finnish architecture, it's really quite impressive. It's free, since it's a pubic library. Make sure to check out the middle floor - the services that are provided are really quite incredible.

Suomenlinna (or Sveaborg in Swedish) is a fortress in the sea, it's a really special place to visit if the weather allows it. You need to take a ferry from Kuppatori to get there, it's a wonderful place to experience Finnish history and also for a walk with great sea views.
