No other Australian city which closed its tramway system left track, trams and a depot behind in the manner that Bendigo did and this enables us to create a picture of the past for our visitors. Whether enjoying a Vintage Talking Tram Tour or taking our guided Depot and Workshop tour, a visit to Bendigo Tramways drives home the significance of how Bendigo has developed as a city, and the role Bendigo Tramways has played in that development. Over the years, we have even attracted such dignitaries as HRH Prince Charles, who visited Bendigo in 1974 and took Bendigo Birney Tram No. 30 for a drive. Today, Bendigo Tramways is Australasia's largest tourist tramway and welcomes over 40,000 visitor

Parks & Nature

The whole family will adore beautiful Rosalind Park – 60 acres of grassy open spaces, lush leafy trees, a fabulous playground, ornate statues, an historic conservatory, a fernery and beautiful old gardens to explore. Conveniently located on the edge of the CBD – perfect for a break from shopping. Rosalind Park was the site of the Government Camp of the 1850s and so became the focus of public life and administration. Prior to 1851 the area we now call Rosalind Park was a grassy woodland with large River Red Gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) lining the creek that was a chain of deep permanent fresh water pools. The creek would have been an important source of food and water for the Dja Dja Wrun

Myer began in Bendigo! Sidney Myer and his brother Elcon worked briefly at a drapery store in Melbourne's Flinders Lane before opening the first MYER store in Bendigo (1900). The brothers continued to prosper, opening another Bendigo store in 1908. Myer's inventive advertising and exciting promotions acted as a major drawcard, increasing customer loyalty. By 1911 Sidney had bought the long established drapery business Wright and Neil in Bourke St, Melbourne. After purchasing a number of the adjoining properties, he established a department store on the site, which he called The Myer Emporium. This store continues to trade today as the flagship in the Myer department store chain.
