Even if you aren't vegan/vegetarian, I'd say check this place out because they make some delicious food. It also just so happens to be really good for you! I'm partial to their Saturday brunch, specifically the biscuits and gravy.

Ice cream and sorbet are the name of the game here. The majority of their flavors are also locally sourced and sometimes really strange! Strawberry and pepper or fig and fennel are two fun ones.

This is my mom's favorite sandwich shop in the city. Every time she visits me she asks about going here. It's a chain, but - per my mom - the crunchy onions you can add (to your build your own sandwich) are life changing.

There aren't many rooftop bars in the city (yet). This one has some really amazing food, and even has cocktails on tap! It can be pretty expensive, but it's worth it for special occasions.

Recently renovated, Terra also has a great view of Columbia's skyline. Their food focuses on local and seasonal, but some items are in such high demand they've remained on-menu for years (for example: the duck confit brick oven pizza with port soaked cherries, which is as amazing as it sounds).

If you're looking for something a little less calorie-intensive, the Spotted Salad is a healthy (and tasty) alternative.

I'm not sure that they've made any significant updates to the bulk of the museum since the '80s or '90s, but it's still an interesting way to spend a day, with plenty of interactive exhibits, especially on the upper floors. They have an entire section dedicated to South Carolina's military history, and have an observatory. I recommend going on $2 Tuesdays!

Congaree National Park is South Carolina's only national park and one of the few longleaf pine forests left in the Southeast. It's about a 45 minute drive from the house, but if you love a peaceful walk through old-growth forests, you won't find a better or easier hike in the state.
