Food Scene
This bar/restaurant serves breakfast and upscale bar food all day, has a decent brunch menu, and way more tables than any restaurant in the neighborhood, including a lovely covered rooftop terrace with views of the cathedral. The food is good, the drinks are good, and they're a bar so you can get good food late for your whole crowd.

This fairly new southern restaurant isn't my favorite southern place in town (it's actually a specialty in the Portland food scene-- check out Screen Door, Miss Delta, or Montage for slightly better examples of the genre-- expect a wait, especially at Screen Door), but it has a large dining room, an even larger patio, and darn good food, can seat you quickly and is just a few blocks away from the house. They've also got a good brunch on the weekends.

This fairly new southern restaurant isn't my favorite southern place in town (it's actually a specialty in the Portland food scene-- check out Screen Door, Miss Delta, or Montage for slightly better examples of the genre-- expect a wait, especially at Screen Door), but it has a large dining room, an even larger patio, and darn good food, can seat you quickly and is just a few blocks away from the house. They've also got a good brunch on the weekends.
This mid-range italian place has one of the larger dining rooms on Alberta, nice ambiance, and tasty food. A good choice for a big group dinner in walking distance.

For rich, hearty sandwiches loaded with high quality meats and huge flavor profiles, this is the place to go. Sure, it's a $10 roast beef sandwich, but at least it will make your tongue sing.

For tasty thin crust pizza, this is the best in the neighborhood. Skip Hot Lips, go here instead. They also have nice big slices for when you want something quick and easy.

For indian food, this is one of the best spots in town. High quality ingredients, a lovely interior, reasonable prices and bollywood movies playing overhead make this a winner.

Is there a crazy line for brunch? You betcha. Is there a reason for it? Absolutely. This iconic dog-friendly place has a huge covered heated patio and great food. My go-to is the Good Dog but their whole brunch menu is a winner.

Vegetarians and vegans rejoice! This very Portland spot has all the comfort food you could want, with a good all day breakfast menu, soups, salads and sandwiches, and vegan mac and cheese that doesn't suck.

You could go all the way downtown and get VooDoo Donuts. Or you could skip that tourist trap and eat vastly tastier and less expensive donuts two blocks away from the house. The old fashioneds and banana bars are my favorites. Not a bad spot for a cheap breakfast sandwich, either.

This is a fairly reasonably priced mexican place with high quality ingredients. I've never been disappointed with a meal here.

While I generally prefer Cha Ba Thai on Alberta and 30th, this place delivers for dinner, which is soo worth it when you've had a long day and it's raining out. The basil crab rangoon here is the best example of crab rangoon anywhere ever, btw.

They call themselves a Pie Bar, and it's for a reason. Their coffee is perhaps the best on the street, but more importantly, their pie crusts are the best in the city and they have a large selection of pies. Seriously, get the pie.

There are other sushi restaurants on Alberta. This is the best of them, with great laid back ambiance and a massive selection of sakes. It's tiny though, so take your big group elsewhere.

This is another really lovely park. It has a bit fewer sports facilities than Alberta Park, but it's a great nearby spot for a walk or a picnic or throwing the frisbee around.
