our key Warsaw landmark, one of the tallest buildings, funded by the Russians in early 1950s after WW2. The urban legend says that the Soviets offered the Warsaw authorities a subway or this palace, and they chose the palace 🙂 and so now our entire subway system consists of only ~30 stations, as the construction started in the 1990s 🙂 You can have a ride all the way up to the viewing terrace and see a panorama of Warsaw

1 plac Defiladour key Warsaw landmark, one of the tallest buildings, funded by the Russians in early 1950s after WW2. The urban legend says that the Soviets offered the Warsaw authorities a subway or this palace, and they chose the palace 🙂 and so now our entire subway system consists of only ~30 stations, as the construction started in the 1990s 🙂 You can have a ride all the way up to the viewing terrace and see a panorama of Warsaw
Metropolitain building / Opera / Piłsudski Square / Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - one of the largest squares in Warsaw is where Pope John Paul II had his first address to the nation after his election. On the square is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, remains of the royal Saski Palace, now commemorating all unnamed soldiers lost during WW2. On the other side of the square, you will see the Metropolitain building made almost entirely out of glass, designed by Norman Foster, sitting right next to the building housing our National Opera since the 19th century

all along the Vistula riverside, there are tens of different bars and clubs. If you fancy a drink in the afternoon or a party at night, try BarKa, Hocki Klocki, Pomost 511, etc.

Neighborhoods
Starówka, fully demolished during WW2, it was restored in the 1950s based on 19th century paintings by an Italian painter called Canaletto. Highly touristic (few locals) but a nice walk to check out a piece of older history

if you care to venture into other parts of town, I would recommend jumping across the river to have a look at far less established of Warsaw in the Praga district, with several churches, a synagogue, and two highlights - Ząbkowska street and Fabryka Wódki Koneser, a former vodka factory now restored into commercial and residential space
