This cafe is a hidden, local fave. Located in a building constructed by a local pastor in 1993 in the shape of Noah's Ark (apparently roughly 2/3 the size described in the Bible) as a school, it now houses apartments and a restaurant. Quirky. Food is basic, fresh & tasty - reasonable prices & friendly service. River valley views en route. All proceeds from the Noah’s Ark Cafe go to charitable activities.

The actual name of this place is Smoke Road BBQ, but Airbnb cannot find it, so I cannot use it :). Smoke Road BBQ is co-located with Moonshine Creek Distillery and is a perfect pairing - smoked meat offerings and patio beverages.

On the surface, this looks like just a quiet, pretty, little town, but it is, as the name says, a centre in this beautiful agricultural area. Drive the 560 to Centreville and enjoy the sweeping vistas and gorgeous fields where the people who grow our food are hard at work (of course, please respect and watch out for private property, agricultural vehicles on the move, and, especially, Mennonite horses & wagons). Centreville is home to the closest grocery store (Valufoods), as well as the two locations (on opposite sides of the intersection) of Country Card & Gift. These locally owned and operated boutiques offer a terrific selection of ladies clothing (mostly business casual and dressy) and accessories and a very well-stocked "house & home" gift store. Find out why shoppers travel from Fredericton and beyond to browse their great selection. Outdoor pool in season. Centreville is also a centre of manufacturing where firetrucks and other apparatus (Metalfab Fire Trucks) and auto body parts and trailers (BWS) are made. Finally, once/year Centreville becomes a major draw for tractor pull at the Western Valley Multiplex. If you are not a tractor pull fan, it must be because you have not yet seen it! :)

Sightseeing

Home of the World's Longest Covered Bridge, several gift shops, a terrific local library with small displays, river access, and the Becaguimec Trail system for adventurous mountain biking and hiking, this is a must visit location. For the intrepid, we can give you directions to cut through the back fields from Lakeville to Hartland for an opportunity to see the "truly rural Carleton County". Watch for occasional special events, such as "dining on the bridge". Hartland is becoming THE place to celebrate New Brunswick Day (first Monday in August).

Waterville, Carleton County is the location of the regional hospital, in case this is needed. (This is NOT the Waterville near Oromocto, even though the Airbnb map shows it as there). Waterville is also the location of two interesting tourist attractions: Covered Bridge Potato Chips (tasting tours!) and Moonshine Creek Distillery (more tasting tours!). Covered Bridge produces the famous NB Storm Chips and many favourites sold across Canada. Moonshine Creek Distillery is perhaps most widely known for the 2019 Chicken Bones (think Ganong, not barnyard fowl) Liqueur frenzy and has developed a richly deserved reputation for many fantastic & original products. Blink and you will miss Waterville, but it is right off the Trans-Canada Highway and well worth a stop!

Our Village

Our lovely little village is located between Centreville and Woodstock, NB. It is NOT the Lakeville near Moncton. Lakeville has two churches, a convenience store, a post office, a fire hall, a park, and a community centre. In the centre of this village is the Williamstown Lake, which was Ducks Unlimited's first restoration project in Atlantic Canada. "Completed in 1960, the project was an enormous conservation success, thanks to the cooperation of local conservationists, the NB government and Ducks Unlimited. Williamstown Lake was once an important migration stop for ring-necks, green-winged teals, and black ducks (among many others). It was a popular hunting location for waterfowlers and a favourite spot for swimmers and boaters. But the lake's original logging dam was failing and the water level was dropping", so local conservationists approached government officials and Duck's Unlimited. "Because of the collaboration and the dedication of this community, Williamstown Lake is now one of the most biologically diverse places in the province. The project has one of the largest collections of rare plants in New Brunswick, and the forest is flourishing. ..To this day, community members are working together to make sure Williamstown Lake remains a rare and beautiful place for generations." The present community of Lakeville was established in 1985 to add street lighting, recreational facilities, and first aid and ambulance services. Originally Wilmot Parish, from the Provincial Archives: "in 1871, it had a population of 150; in 1898 it was a community with 1 post office, 4 stores, 1 sawmill, 1 grist mill, 2 churches, and a population of 200." A recent census puts the population of Lakeville at around 300. Lakeville has two protected natural areas in close proximity: Lakeville Protected Natural Area and Williamstown Lake Protected Natural Area.
