Dinner & Drinks

Wesley and Rose at the Surf Hotel - 719.966.7048 1012 Front Loop (on the South Main Square), Buena Vista http://surfhotel.com/wesley-rose/ Dinner, Sunday Brunch Opened in the summer of 2018 this is by far the best restaurant in the region in our opinion. The owners feel strongly that amazing bread is a cornerstone of any good restaurant, so they actually attended the San Francisco Baking Institute during research and development for their hotel/restaurant concept. All of their bread is made fresh on site for everything from English muffins, to amazing French Toast, to charcuterie and cheese boards, sandwiches, and pizzas. Inquire about buying a loaf of sourdough to bring home - it is scrumptious! The menu includes locally grown fare and changes regularly, but we have provided a sample menu. Their bar also serves up surprisingly inventive and delicious cocktails. The atmosphere visually takes us back to days spent in chic cafes in Europe, combined with outdoor dining overlooking the kayak playholes on the Arkansas River. The vibe is very casual, akin to Southern California fine eateries where you can be comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt, or dressed up for a night on the town. High season hours are generally happy hour (4 to 5pm) and dinner (from 5pm on) 7 days/week, and weekend brunch on Sunday, but call ahead to confirm.

Simple Eatery - 719.207.9400 402 E. Main St., Buena Vista https://www.spoon-it-up.com/ Simple Eatery is housed in half of the historic State Highway Department building on Main Street, sharing the space with the Trailhead outdoor outfitters. This casual, counter service only spot has a delightfully fresh and varied menu with something for everyone. We find it better than the Noodles chain, but somewhat similar in offerings. All their bread is baked fresh in house - if you want to take a loaf home try the pretzel loaf, it’s delicious! They also have a self-serve frozen yogurt bar with toppings galore. In the summer their large gravel patio features ample seating and space for kids to run around and play with the provided outdoor games. In the high season they are generally open 10:30am to 8pm, but call ahead to confirm.

Food + Market

The Asian Palate Marketplace 328 E Main St. https://www.theasianpalate.com/ Friday & Saturdays 11am - 5pm After a brief hiatus, Eddie and Brynn reopened the much-beloved Asian Palate as a marketplace where you can purchase their freshly pre-prepared pan Asian fare, as well as a variety of retail Asian specialty foods. Sushi can be pre-arranged through their catering service, but sometimes they have fresh sushi available for walk-in orders at the marketplace if you’re lucky. Bring a dish “home” to heat up, or ask if they can heat it up to enjoy on the spot (limited seating).

Spark Provisions - 719.922.0050 410 E. Main Street https://www.sparkprovisions.com/ Thursday thru Monday (sometimes more), 11am - 7pm (High season) This is a great option if you feel like eating a “home-cooked” meal during your stay. They provide delicious, gourmet, freshly pre-prepared meals by their in-house chef that you can choose from their cooler and take “home” to bake up in your toaster/oven (we verified that even their large aluminum pans fit in our toaster ovens!). In addition to take and bake items, they have sandwiches, salads, sides and scrumptious desserts. Selections change daily, but often include Indian, Italian, Mediterranean and American influences with local ingredients where possible. A meal for “two” is generally more than two people can eat at one sitting. They also have a great selection of wines, beer and other gourmet retail provisions.
