Norwich has many fantastic cafés and restaurants. The Green Grocers is a wonderful independent option. A green supermarket that has reasonable prices and a great café. Next door are some charity shops/thrift shops where you can pick up second hand books and quirky bargins.

This is a place that locals come to watch the sunset over the city. Or just to enjoy a little sunshine during the day and a coffee from the charming little Sunset Café. It is a 15-20 minute walk from the centre, but as the view suggests, you have to climb a hill!

Okay. Statues are not flavour of the month. But spare a thought for the often overlooked Sir Thomas Browne. He is considered "a writers writer" and is acknowledged as being one of the finest writers in the English language. Only Shakespeare has contributed more words and phrases to our language than Sir Thomas Browne. Words like: "Suicide", "Computer", "Electricity" and "Migrant" are his. Writers like Herman Melville revered him. If it wasn't for Sir Thomas, Melville would not have written the American classic; "Moby Dick". Consequently Starbucks would be called something else like Heathcliff and the DJ "Moby", a direct descendant of Melville, would simply be called Dick. On the square or "plain" as they are called in Norwich; the people sit with their Primark bags and contemplate their Big Mac Meal with the same gaze of intent and awe as Sir Thomas upon his pedestal puzzling over the origin and mystery of Anglo-Saxon pottery.

Food Scene

There are so many great coffee shops in Norwich selling excellent coffee and charm that you really don't need to go to a chain to get your coffee fix. This is just one, but equally, i could name several more: Artel, The Merchants House, Bread Source and so on.

In one of the oldest cities in the UK, we have this beautiful temple to modernity, The Forum. The building contains the city library with its wonderful collection of books. It also has a large exhibition space for artists and cafés and restaurants to engage in a little people watching in one of the nicest spots in the city. The library has free WiFi and there are clean toilets there.
