Just follow the cycling path at the Karl Heine Kanal and you get to the Lindenauer Hafen. That place is a monument for an unfulfilled dream, Leipzig dreamed for hundreds of years. We are missing the ocean. And we are missing it so much that we started to build a chanal to the Saale, the biggest river near Leipzig, which runs to the ocean. Though, neather the chanel nor the Lindenauer Hafen was ever finished. For 60 years what was supposed to be a harbour never saw a ship. Today one can row small boats via Karl-Heine-Kanal to the Lindenauer Hafen. The dream, though, is still vivid.

The Völkerschlachtdenkmal looks like a big pile of stones. Actually it is a monument for peace. It war erected as a reminder of the Völkerschlacht. A battle which was taking place near Leipzig 200 years ago. Several armys where fighting against each other. On one side Napoleon and on the other side a group of allied forces including Russia and Prussia. The ironic point of the story is, that the Kingdom of Saxony was fighting at the side of Napoleon, who lost the battle.

Parks & Nature

This is Leipzigs biggest Park. And as you notice quickly Leipzig is a green city. The Clara-Zetkin-Park is crowded with people in the warmer days of the year. Though, one can still find a calm place. From here you can also walk along the Weiße Elster or Pleiße, both small rivers which run through Leipzig. Both accompanied by a very sensible ecosystem, the Auwald. This forest stretches from one edge of the city to the other one and far beyond.
