Sightseeing

The sea front is less than a 200m walk from Chapel Mews. Known as the Gateway to the Jurassic Coast, Sidmouth sea front is flanked by stunning views of the cliffs and Lyme Bay. The beach itself is pebble and sand with rock pools at low tide and is ideally suited to families and people of all ages. Along the sea front are hotels with restaurants open to the public, bars, cafes and of course the all important ice creams and fish & chips.

The Donkey Sanctuary is just outside Sidmouth and is a free to all entry. Get to meet the donkeys and learn all about them, there are great walks with stunning view, also a gift shop and cafe.

The Cathedral City of Exeter is about a 30 minute drive from Sidmouth. Exeter offers all the shops, cafes, bars and restaurants you would expect to find in a city plus the beautiful Cathedral or take a tour of the historic tunnels that run under the city.

The Cathedral City of Exeter is about a 30 minute drive from Sidmouth. Exeter offers all the shops, cafes, bars and restaurants you would expect to find in a city plus the beautiful Cathedral or take a tour of the historic tunnels that run under the city.
Connaught Gardens and Jacobs Ladder can be found to the West Side of Sidmouth next to the Manor Road car park. Connaught Gardens are beautiful historic public gardens with a stunning view points on top of the cliffs looking over the town and out to sea. You can take a well earned break at The Clock Tower tea rooms and then climb down Jacobs Ladder the famed large set of steps that lead down to Jacobs Ladder beach, from there you can take the path under the cliffs back to the Esplanade and beach.

Connaught Gardens and Jacobs Ladder can be found to the West Side of Sidmouth next to the Manor Road car park. Connaught Gardens are beautiful historic public gardens with a stunning view points on top of the cliffs looking over the town and out to sea. You can take a well earned break at The Clock Tower tea rooms and then climb down Jacobs Ladder the famed large set of steps that lead down to Jacobs Ladder beach, from there you can take the path under the cliffs back to the Esplanade and beach.

Darts Farm is about a 20 minute drive from the property. It's a large farm shop selling local produce, butchers, deli, beers, wines and spirits. There is also a restaurant, gifts, an Orange Tree outlet, Aga kitchen shop and a spa for those all important pamper sessions. Outside the Fish Shed sells delicious fish and chips to take away while the Shack sells locally roasted coffee, soft drinks, light bites and is also a licensed bar. There is also a large picnic area with children's play area and scenic walks around there fields or if you fancy a bit of a longer walk the historic town of Topsham and the Exe estuary are close by or if its feels to much of a walk you can hire bicycles instead.

The Anchor Inn is a local traditional pub just round the corner from Chapel Mews. It has been voted the best pub in Sidmouth by TripAdvisor and in the top 5 places to eat and drink in the town. It has extensive menu with a good choice of vegetarian and vegan dishes.
