A few minutes drive from the cottage, Woodchester Mansion is an unfinished Gothic mansion set in beautiful woodland. National Trust car park and several signposted walks. Check the website for opening times of the Mansion and cafe (www.woodchestermansion.org.uk).

3 miles from the cottage, Minchinhampton Common is one of the largest grassland commons in the Cotswolds and is a great place to stroll and enjoy the views and fresh air. Watch out for the cows! It's another favourite place of ours for walking. The Old Lodge, as noted elsewhere in the guidebook, is a good choice for food and drink. It also has a lovely beer garden. Designed in the 1740's as a fanciful pleasure garden, the hidden valley offers spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and intriguing garden buildings. It has a lovely cafe on site and Painswick itself is worth a visit, famous for its church and 99 Yew trees planted in the church gardens.

Could be combined with a visit to Cirencester or Burford afterwards.

An award winning pub and local favourite, the Bell Inn is around a 15 minute walk from the cottage. You can either walk up the lane and turn right down the road where the pub can be found on the right hand side or go via the fields by walking up the lane and take the first style on the right into the field. Follow the path down to Ivy Cottage and turn left along the gravel lane to the end. At the main road, turn right and the pub is a couple of minutes down the road on the right hand side. Excellent quality food and local beers. A favourite with our guests. Booking essential.

Olde worlde local pub within a 15 minute walk. Turn left off of the drive and walk down the lane to the end. Turn left, cross the road and take the next turning right into Church Road. The lane can be muddy so walking shoes are recommended.
