About 40 miles north of inverness, this a stunner right beside the golf course. Old Gaol shop and cafe has lovely quality gifts and Dornoch is a lovely village to wander round including old cathedral. I always visit the Anta Pottery in Fearn to make a full day trip.

Cross the bridge across the road from the flat and follow road to left until you reach the rugby club where you will see underpass taking you to the canal. Paths on both side for walk or cycle. Heading right takes you down to mouth of the Moray Firth. Good lunch stop at Clachnaharry Inn or the Jammy Piece. Head in opposite direction to reach Dochgarroch and mouth of Loch Ness. Watch the lochs change and take a break at An Tala cafe and gift shop or the boat restaurant further down the canal on the same side. Can also catch boat trips for Loch Ness with Jacobite Cruises here.
