Kayak rental place at the bottom of the hill. We recommend grabbing some kayaks, exploring the islands, then taking a break at the dingy dock pub! Call in advance to reserve, or be prepared to wait (millers pub is next door if there’s a wait).

The starting place for mount Benson hikes, look for the big parking lot and follow the signs! Be sure to bring water and snacks, and let someone know you are hiking Benson (if going alone).

It is a nice local lake where you could go swimming, but the main attraction is the trail that goes around the lake. There are a couple different paths that make it shorter or longer, but generally around 6KM, which is good for walking or running.
There is one hill if you start to the left, but other than that it is quite flat.

A short ferry ride from Nanaimo, this is a great option for a day trip. Gabriola has a laid-back charm to it. One thing it is known for is its art galleries, beaches, and local shops.
