Much quieter than the adjoining Dovedale, there is a small hikers’ cafe selling teas coffee and snacks, not for consumption on the premises but you can relax and refuel by the river a few yards away. Parking in the village. A nice walk up the hill by the cafe takes you to the pretty village of Alstonefield and the George pub.

Popular village with pubs, cafes and a good base to explore adjoining Wolfescote Dale. Parking can be difficult at certain times like Bank Holidays. Tip- in Summer months if you’ve not woken up to get there early, try after 4pm when visitors start to leave. There’s still plenty of time for an evening stroll and a pint.
