This is our absolute favourite source of delicious take away fish and chips down at Burrill Lake just south of Ulladulla. The waiting time can be half an hour if you go at lunch time on weekends or holidays, but it's worth it, or try calling ahead with your order. We take ours across the bridge and down to Dolphin Point, to sit in the car while eating, and watching the surf crash on the rocks around the beach. Sometimes you may also spot on the beach just around the bend a fabulous rock sculpture garden... until it is washed away by stormy seas.

This lookout, surrounded by the vast Morton National Park, is accessed via the Braidwood Road behind us, gives a good view across to the coast from behind Wandandian. The access road is not paved, so may be a bit rough after rains or when extremely dry. From here, continue a bit further south along the Braidwood Road to Tianjara Falls, which is just a 30 second walk from its carpark, very close to the road.

Huskisson is the largest, and thus, busiest town on Jervis Bay. It hosts the dolphin- and whale-watching cruises, a vast selection of restaurants and cafes, very popular triathlons twice a year, the SeeChange Festival every two years, markets, artesan studios and a quaint little cinema, to name just a few of its features. The main family beach is Sharknet Beach, directly below the bottom of Huskisson's main street, Owen Street: this beach does now allow dogs. Immediately south of Sharknet, is Huskisson Beach, where dogs are allowed on lead at all times, and off lead between 3:00pm and 8:00am off season and between 4:00pm and 8:00am in summer.

This lookout is accessed by a road that is best attempted in an AWD or 4WD, it can get a bit rough after rains or in very dry weather... it has been closed for much of 2020 but I believe is open again after necessary extensive post-bushfire work. The lookout may be accessed from the road which goes very close to the top via the 12 mile road, or alternatively from the picnic area below and a fun 5 minute climb up between the rocks. Also on this road, a few kms before the lookout, are Granite Falls, which can be quite spectacular after heavy rains, and which are accessed via 5 minute walk along a wide path. There is even a plaque advising some history on a tin mine which was situated just near the falls many years ago... a very strange location, one might think!

I have included this beach from many that are equally worthy around Jervis Bay, because I have several times hear that people who were fortunate enough to be on the Bay on nights when 'bioluminescence' was observed... this is a very beautiful phenomenon, and quite a privilege to catch at the right time... it cannot be forecast precisely and depends mostly on weather and tide conditions. This event can only be witnessed at night.

This beach is located between Hyams and Greenfields Beaches and can be accessed by foot from Greenfields Beach, along the White Sands Walk, or by parking at the Western end of Hyams Beach reserve and walking down the path. We have seen dolphins very close in to the beach playing in groups here (they are everywhere in Jervis Bay, but different beaches on different days)... and the waters, on a good day, are just stunningly beautiful.... and along with all Jervis Bay beaches, a view towards Point Perpendicular Lighthouse out on the northern headland of the Beecroft Peninsula, and Bowen Island just off Murrays Beach on the southern headland.

Parks & Nature

I have included this one from the many beautiful options on Jervis Bay because in my opinion, it is the prettiest of them all (very close to my opinion of Murrays Beach, at the far end of the road through Booderee National Park).... Greenfields Beach has a lovely well shaded car park, although limited car spaces, but it can also be accessed on foot via White Sands Walking Track from Blenheim Beach or Chinamans/Huskisson Beach... It is in the prettiest setting, with beautiful Banksias and many other shady trees around it, and pretty rock pools accessible at low tide on the Eastern end. When the conditions are at their best, the water is stunningly crystal clear, and the sand as white as it comes (Hyams does not have this privilege exclusively, despite the rumours)...

This, in the best weather, is the most stunning beach of all in Jervis Bay for its crystal clear waters of so many aqua hues. It is at the end of the Naval College Road which runs the length of Booderee National Park, and is accessed by a 5 minute walk through light bushland from the carpark at one end, or the boat ramp entrance at the other end. It also affords the closest views of Bowen Island, which is home to a protected penguin colony of some 5000 breeding pairs.
