For good cafeteria-style Mexican food ... nice variety, well prepared, and large portion sizes. Just remember to bring cash, as they don't take credit.

This place is legitimate! The Old Clam House is the City’s oldest restaurant serving quality seafood and spirits in the same location since 1861. (Yes, I stole that from their website, and I totally just learned it’s the oldest SF restaurant, I just knew it’s been around forever!) We’ve probably had 3/4 of the menu, but our favorites are the cheesy garlic bread, sand dabs, & anything with crab.

If you looking for Japanese food within walking distance, Tekka House is the place to go - the sushi is fresh, the ramen is tasty, and the hot plates are delicious (the karaage is usually very authentic).

Kazan offers classic Japanese bites along side a vast selection of sushi and sashimi. We've had about 95% of their menu and everything is worth having again!

Visit this eclectic Italian restaurant for a fun, unique, & funky good time. The food is tasty, especially the Cheesy Garlic Bread, Mac & Cheese, and Spaghetti & Meatballs (obviously). Also, they have a few arcade games and photo booth in back!

Pera offers Mediterranean fare including Turkish & Greek specialties in a neighborhood setting. If you happen to arrive on Wednesday, they offer half price wine bottles. Their Saganaki (appetizer) and Kaymakli Kayisi (dessert) are my absolute favorite dishes!

Looking for a nice dinner out? Like Beef? There menu is essentially a selection of cut sizes, sides, and desserts ... get the spinach, it’s delicious! But, be warned, they usually require a reservation a month or two in advance. Side note, this is a “nice place” that you can totally take a reasonably-behaved kid to ... it’s my 9 month old’s favorite restaurant!

If you find yourself in need of additional grocery items, Safeway is the most prevalent general grocery store in our area. We prefer the Safeway located in Diamond Heights because it is nicer & cleaner than the other nearby Safeways. NOTE: San Francisco Laws require stores to charge for grocery bags. The Mission Dolores Church is a very interesting and beautiful landmark which you should visit if you have an interest in churches or history. It is the oldest intact building in the City of San Francisco and the only intact Mission Chapel in the chain of 21 Spanish missions in California.

Arts & Culture

There are a lot of murals on buildings/structures in the Mission District, I would recommend looking up a list of highlights or looking for a guided Mission mural tour. For example: https://www.sftourismtips.com/mission-district-murals.html

There is an artist that lives across the street from us who maintains an art wall on the street near us. He works out of Ruby's Clay Studio & Gallery, so I really like to recommend that gallery as a place to see local artwork.

We always recommend the deYoung Museum, which is easily combined with a hike through one of the gardens in Golden Gate Park (if you're into that sort of thing). Check out the exhibits that will be there while you're visiting ...
