Beaches

Fuerteventura is full of fabulous beaches all around the island. Some of them are more remote and wild, others more equipped for families. In some you can see the sun rise, in others the sun dips into the ocean with beautiful sunsets. Discover a different beach every day
This is one of the best beach in Fuerteventura. You can't see where the sea ends and starts the sky. A perfect match of colors in a wild scenery. Perfect for surfer in a windy day, perfect to relax, to stay alone, to walk and to take fabulous pictures.

As with most of Fuerteventura's beaches, Mal Nombre beach has a wild feel, has convenient parking nearby, and delivers postcard-perfect thrills. On the Mal Nombre playa, you will find classic stone walls, very useful in strong winds, and a kiosk, according to many travelers, with not-so-cheap prices.

Esquinzo Butihondo Beach is located joined to the town of the same name, north of the important tourist center of Morro Jable. It is a semi-urban beach almost three kilometers long, divided into several sections, which allows it to offer large quiet areas despite being in a tourist area. For this reason, the beach, located in the south of the island of Fuerteventura, is perfect for practicing nudism in complete privacy, sunbathing with all the amenities, or taking advantage of water sports.

One of the 100 most beautiful beaches in Europe. Famous for being the backdrop for films such as Star Wars, this beach is especially spectacular at sunset. It is not ideal for sunbathing, but rather for discovering a wild place where mountains plunge into the ocean. Opposite this beach is the Winter House, where the mystery behind the figure of Hitler is hidden. The road to Cofete is a bit winding and unpaved, from Morro Jable, consider about 1 hour. But it is worth it, at least once to see a sunset from here.

Fuerteventura is synonymous with endless beaches of fine golden sand. However, its western coast, with its more impetuous wave motion, hides essential treasures worth visiting if you love contrasts. Aguas Verdes, in Betancuria, is one of them and perfectly summarizes the wide range of pristine natural swimming pools in the Canary Islands. Six kilometers dotted with pools and inlets open to the sea which are worth a visit if your priorities are relaxation and isolation away from human footprints. Hike and natural pools

The real name is Playa de El Hierro. You will find yourself in front of an expanse of "pop corn" and you will almost be afraid to walk on it! These are small white corals - rhodoliths - with a capricious shape, the result of the erosion of calcareous algae with white sand. In recent years, the beach has been literally ransacked by tourists, but it's not about souvenirs, let's leave the popcorn where it is! Would you like to take a dip? I don't want to disappoint you, but it's practically impossible here, considering the rock formations that emerge on the shore. We are a stone's throw from Corralejo and it takes very little to reach the famous dunes.

The island of Los Lobos is located in front of Corralejo (reachable by boat in 15 minutes without reservation). The island is uninhabited and has a perimeter of 7 km. There is a volcano on which you can climb and from where you have a magnificent view of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. There is a beautiful beach in the shape of a basin where you can sunbathe and swim and a natural pool with emerald-coloured water that is truly magnificent.

Corralejo is a town nestled on the northeastern coast of Fuerteventura, the second largest in the Canary Islands by area. A renowned tourist center, it boasts modern accommodations and beach facilities, as well as natural wonders such as the Parque Natural de Corralejo, with more than ten kilometers of dunes, and the Isla de Lobo, a striking volcanic islet now turned into a nature reserve. As you might imagine, surfing and windsurfing are among the most popular pastimes in Corralejo, but the town is also an ideal destination for shopping enthusiasts, families and anyone looking for a relaxing vacation. There is, of course, no shortage of entertainment, and nightlife enthusiasts will find numerous bars, discos and live music venues where they can keep the early hours. Just a half-hour drive from Fuerteventura International Airport, Corralejo is packed with things to do and see

In Corralejo there is the coolest and most absurd thing you will see in Fuerteventura: Villa Tabaiba, whose name refers to a cactus native to the Canary Islands. Among lush trees, palms and cacti, you can admire surreal sculptures, phrases and mosaics. A colorful and fun villa (there is a telephone to talk to San Pedro) designed by Carlos Calderón Yruegas, painter, sculptor, writer and minimalist architect... a genius in short!

Splendid windmill powered by the trade winds, evidence of a predominantly cereal economy that has shaped the rural landscape of the island. Dating back to the 1930s, it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1994. Called the macho mill, it is a masonry construction, made with clay and lime, with a circular plan and truncated cone shape. It is made up of three parts: in the lower one the miller's tools were kept; in the central part the grain was collected and in the upper part there is the grinding machine, closed by a wooden dome which rotates by means of the rudder, orienting the blades to the wind. The Molino de Tefía has six blades and, next to it, stands the Astronomical Observatory.

Experience

If you love trekking to death, there are plenty of opportunities on Fuerteventura. But consider the conditions: the heat, the wind, the absence of shade and greenery along your route. These treks are more of a challenge to yourself: exhausting, they put you to the test and the solitude makes you find yourself. Equip yourself with water, sun cream, food and a hat! This 7 km + 7 km route starts in Jandìa and ends on Pico de la Zarza, from where you can see the beaches of Cofete and Jandìa.

The landscape of the Barranco de las Peñitas in Fuerteventura is among the most particular on the island, high cracks inhabited by green palm trees and pools of water. Many of the rocks are flat and smooth, smoothed over time by the water, right between the rocks stands a very small white church. Once upon a time a river flowed between high rock walls. Different routes, poorly signposted, lead to different areas of the ravine, although what really makes this place famous is the Arco de las Peñitas. Apart from the small church, which is easily accessible, there are several places hidden in these ravines. Deserve a trekking!

Book your rental car before arriving in Fuerteventura

There are many different rental cars in Fuerteventura. Some of them ask you for credit car, other no. Prices were affordable, but now the things are changing. You can take a car just to go down to Morro Jable and leave it there, in the rental car office, or, you can keep it and do some excursions on the island. Reserve in advance to have the lowest fares possible. I have had good experience with the company PayLess rental car, they don't ask you for credit card. But browse on the web and discover the one you prefere.
Samgöngur

Stop at Lidl just outside the airport

When you arrive at the airport and rent a car, just outside there is a shopping district, including Ikea. There is also Lidl nearby, so it is worth stopping and buying what you think you need right away. The small supermarkets in the tourist resorts are a bit more expensive. I recommend buying water to drink and water if you plan to cook pasta or make tea. I don't recommend drinking water from the tap because it is desalinated seawater, but not good for drinking. Buy shampoo, shower gel, sunscreen etc. So when you get to the flat, just relax!

Fuerteventura and nudists

On the beaches of Fuerteventura there is a lot of freedom. If you want to wear a swimming costume, put it on, otherwise you can stay without it. There are plenty of nudists on all the beaches, nothing to be scandalised about.
Samgöngur

1st impression of Fuerteventura

If you are coming to Fuerteventura and it is your first time in Fuerteventura, you might feel a bit disoriented upon arrival because the island is different from all the other Canary Islands. First of all, the colours: there are no green plants and it looks a bit dry and deserted. But this is what makes it unique: its wildness and primordial nature. Fuerteventura is a hook: if it grabs you, it's forever. Here you will feel positive energy, forget about stress and feel free and happy. It's hard to explain, you just have to come here to understand.

What to do in 1 week

If you come here just for a week ( hope not!), you cannot miss these things: walking on the beautiful beaches of the south: Playa Sotavento, Jandia, Morro Jable. Go to the dunes of Corralejo. Overlooking the rocks of La Pared. See a sunset from Cofete and El Cotillo. Cross the island stopping at the belvederes I have indicated. Visit Betancuria. Bathe in the cold, crystal clear ocean. Visit Los Lobos and climb the volcano. Eat tapas, tortillas, fish, tostadas. Than...you will come over and over again!
