Our newest addition to the neighborhood. It’s a Latin market, as soon as you walk up, the music will have you starting to move your hips. Great vibe, good drinks, interesting eats.

My new favorite place. It’s from Starr restaurant group (owns Le Diplomate and St. Anselm) and it has its own unique pulse. You almost feel like you’re in a club rather than a restaurant. It’s Mexican inspired with a lean towards seafood. If you go, get the Nachos (w/chorizo if not a vegetarian); you will not be disappointed. My favorite dish was the himachi agauchile. For a beverage, I had a reposado old fashioned (I think it was casamigo) but not sure), it was the server suggestion and it was fabulous!

St. Anselm is an American tavern devoted to the pleasures of grilled meats and great ingredients simply cooked. While steak is a specialty, the creativity doesn’t stop there. I eat here once every three months and it never disappoints. Reservations are recommended.

Laotian restaurant that is amazing. It is so good, I recommend asking the waiter to help you order. For two people, get one app, one salad, and one entree and that should be good. Reservation recommended! Must order: crispy rice salad (my favorite dish)...the beef jerky is also really good (seen haeng) but if you’re only going to trust one of my recommendations get the Crispy rice salad— de-lish!

A family operation that serves up mostly Trinidadian cuisine. There jerk chicken wings are ridiculous and IMO some of the best wings in the city. There are some vegan, gluten free, and dairy free options on the menu.

Do you like Tacos? Now try it with a twist. You can eat traditional tacos or add kimchi, there are hundreds of combinations you can make. I’m a traditionalist so I like the Pico de Gallo topping but don’t let my boringness hold you back. Try the Mango Fiesta or Volcano Fijita of try all three on the same taco. Like I said there are hundreds of combinations you can choose from. This place started as a food truck and became so popular they opened a stand alone spot. It’s close to the apartment and inexpensive. I recommend calling ahead to order and walk over to pick up. It’s a 5 min walk.

Hands down, one of my favorite restaurants in DC. It was also once rated best restaurant in America; it’s frequently on the Michelin list.

Drinks

DC's newest Brewery and its turning into one of my favorite spots. If youre not that into beer, never fear, they have a "Fruity and Sour" list that is sure to satisfy your thirst. The "Sticky Rice" sour tasted like a cross between mango lassi and sticky rice, it was surprisingly refreshing and sweet at the same time. I had a 12 oz and was happy but I couldnt see myself drinking two of them back to back. They also serve pan style pizza which was pretty tasty as well. I had the Sicilian without honey and it hit the spot.

A DC staple: order the Original chili half smoke. Bens is the type of place where celebrities come and have their photo taken. A little bit of history, after MLK was assassinated, Bens was the only place on U st that survived the riots that followed. It’s still there, in its original form basking in all its glory (must visit U st location only).

Probably one of the most overlooked Smithsonian museums. I like it because it’s interesting and quick. You can be in and out in 30-45 min, check out the Gutenberg bible.

Eclectic museum with twists and turns, you could easily kill a couple hours here but do with it what you like. Be sure you locate the hidden door to the impressive “wine cellar” before you go. And no, that’s not the Amnesia room, which itself displays a large wine collection. One last thing, nearly everything you see is for sale! The O Mansion is open to the public daily for tours from 11-5pm, based on availability, with the last tour starting at 3pm. Online reservations are required.

You’ve heard of Colombian coffee but what about Panamanian Coffee? Cafe Unido is a unique coffee shop that even provides one of the highest priced coffee bean in the world: Panama Geisha. Check it out! This is my wife’s favorite coffee shop in DC.

Close by, behind the Trader Joe’s, they are based in California...the coffee here is a little pricier but if you are a connoisseur of coffee you may find that extra bit worth it. Worth trying...at least once 😉
