Food scene

This is my favorite German restaurant in the entire city! It was recently featured on Man vs. Food. Be sure to try anything with corned beef. They make it (along with pretty much everything else) in house, and it's incredible. :)

One of my favorite BBQ places in the city. This place is closed on Monday and Tuesday just FYI. They have *very* good brisket, chicken, ribs, etc. But my favorites here are the sides...the collard greens and the mac and cheese are A+. Also try their pickled onions as a garnish...they make them in house, and they remind me of the ones my grandmother used to make.

Great tacos! Very creative and interesting menu. Chips and salsa are free and self-serve. This place is also very affordable with $2 tacos on Taco Tuesday and generally low prices.

Featured on Man vs. Food, this dive-bar/burger joint is a local favorite. It's also the home of The Thurminator, a *giant* burger with countless toppings that only the most determined can finish. Please note that Thurman Cafe doesn't accept reservations and can tend to have a 1+ hour wait. It's worth it if you have the time!

Cold-pressed juices! The perfect destination for a walk in the morning, this little place is locally-owned and offers lots of great choices for smoothies and juices. Highly recommended.

This is the most well-known German restaurant in Columbus. While I do prefer Valter's for its more intimate atmosphere and location (across the street from the apartment!), Schmidt's has a really cool historic scene and an excellent buffet. Their cream puffs are also massive. The wait can be a little long, but is usually reasonable.

Great local coffee roaster! Starbucks is also nearby, but I also prefer locally-owned spots. And I may be biased, but the coffee's better too. :)

The Book Loft is possibly the coolest bookstore I've ever experienced...and I've visited to old bookstores in many different places including France, England, etc. It's basically a labyrinth of 32 different rooms inside an old historic building, each room with its own theme of books and genre of music.
